Timber Treatments

Timber Treatment

Common Furniture Beetle is the most common type of woodworm. This insect infests almost all woods and timbers and is commonly seen in joists, floorboards and roof timbers. There are also other kinds of woodworms. Such as, Death Watch Beetle, Wood Boring Weevil, House Longhorn Beetle and Powderpost Beetle.

Damage from woodworm

The most common form of woodworm treatment used by Hereford Damp &Mould control is spraying timbers such as floorboards, joists and staircase and roof timber with an insecticide which will eradicate any beetle infestation and also prevent re-infestation.

This woodworm treatment is guaranteed effective for 20 years
The chemicals we use to eradicate woodworm are odourless, non-toxic, water based and have one-hour re-entry time. Hereford Damp &Mould Control offera twenty-year guarantee with all our woodworm treatments and a free, no obligation inspection of any suspected woodworm infestation is available to house-owners.

We also use dual purpose solution which penetrates deeply into timber and is highly effective against wood destroying wood-boring insects, wood rotting fungi (dry rot and wet rot), and blue stain and is an ultra-effective and long lasting solution to woodworm and fungal decay.

The active ingredient in our preservative is permethrin which has a low mammalian toxicity, which in plain English means it is not harmful to humans or animals but you ( and any pets ) should stay out of the house while treatments are being carried out and not re-enter until floorboards and other treated timbers are completely dry

For dry rot and wet rot, a more intensive treatment is often necessary with affected timbers being removed and replaced after affected walls and surrounding areas have been sterilized with a masonry biocide as well as locating and removing the source of dampness which may have caused the problem in the first place.

Damage to floorboards caused by dry rot.

This treatment involves stripping back of adjoining plaster work and timber to beyond the last sign of dry rot growth which ensures the complete eradication of fungus and prevents future infection through sterilizing all exposed brickwork and masonry.

Our Masonry Biocide is a multi purpose treatment containing 'Polyphase' (a carbonate fungicide), for fast action and excellent absorption rates into walls suffering from or vulnerable to dry rot, moulds, algae, mosses and lichens. The unique micro-emulsion ensures that this Masonry Biocide diffuses into hard to reach places for an effective treatment of the masonry and is a guaranteed, long-lasting treatment for dry rot

Hereford Damp &Mould Control provide a twenty-year guarantee with all our wet and dry rot treatments which are accepted by Building Societies, Bank etc. as part of mortgage lending requirements
